Bhagavad Gita - The life of Emperor Bharatha

Our country known as Bharatha , The land which is called 'India' by foreigners. Bharatha was the emperor and henceforth the land ruled by him is called Bharatha. Even today during any Sankalpa which we perform ahead of Yagna /Pooja we refer our address which starts as Jambu dweepe, bharata varshe...

Bharatha is an ancestors of Pandavas /Kauravas. Lets here look into his life of Bharatha across 3 JANMA and comparing it with BHAGAVADGITA .

Well though Bhagavad Gita which we read today was told by Bhagavan Sri Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, initially this ultimate truth was told by Bhagavan to Manu( BhagavdGita Chapter 4 verse - 1,2,3,4,5)

( This is a humble attempt to compare Bharathas journey across 3 Janma  towards Moksha  and Bhagavad Gita. If any mistakes /Misinterpreted I apologize 🙏🙏 rest everything I put this into Bhagavans feet.  )

GITA : Chapter 4 Verse 1

Bhagavn says I taught this eternal science of Yog to the Sun-god, Vivasvan, who passed it on to Manu; and Manu in turn instructed it to Ikshvaku.

   JANMA 1 Emperor /Sage Bharatha

GITA Chapter 15 Verse 8

shariram yad avapnoti yach chapy utkramatishvarah
grihitvaitani sanyati vayur gandhan ivashayat

The living entity in the material world carries his different conceptions of life from one body to another as the air carries aromas. Thus he takes one kind of body and again quits it to take another.

King Bharatha After fulfilling his duties as a Emperor (Grihasta) he contemplating on the life of VanaPrasta & Sanyasa (Renunciation) transferred all his duties to his children. He moved to a forest and meditated with the ultimate purpose of attaining Liberation. He soared in realization, his meditation was getting better & better, he had attained many higher stages in meditation. He was spending the last days of his life in search of the ultimate knowledge –Mukti.

One fine day , A lonely pregnant deer was drinking water from the river, there was a sudden lion roar from a short distance. The doe was terrified & tried to jump over the river from the top of a big rock, on mid-flight it gave birth to a baby deer which fell into the river, the mother deer hit the rock on the other side and died. The retired king brought it out of the water, the forest was a cruel place for a young Deer to survive, and he thought he would take care of it until it could take care of itself.

Sage Bharatha

As he became fonder and fonder of the deer, the less and less he could concentrate his mind upon the Lord. When the deer went out to graze in the forest, if it were late in returning, the mind of the royal sage would become anxious and worried. He would think, "Perhaps my little one has been attacked by some tiger — or perhaps some other danger has befallen it; otherwise, why is it late?"

Some years passed in this way, but one day death came, and the royal sage laid himself down to die. But his mind, instead of being intent upon the Self, was thinking about the deer; and with his eyes fixed upon the sad looks of his beloved deer, his soul left the body. As the result of this, in the next birth he was born as a deer.

GITA Chapter 6 verse 37 :Arjun said: What is the fate of the unsuccessful yogi who begins the path with faith, but who does not endeavor sufficiently, due to unsteady mind, and is unable to reach the goal of Yog in this life?      Does not such a person who deviates from Yog get deprived of both material and spiritual success, O mighty-armed Krishna, and perish like a broken cloud with no position in either sphere???

JANMA 2 Life in Deer

GITA Chapter 06 Verse 43

 tatra taṁ buddhi-sanyogaṁ labhate paurva-dehikam
yatate cha tato bhūyaḥ sansiddhau kuru-nandana

On taking such a birth, O descendant of Kurus, they reawaken the wisdom of their previous lives, and strive even harder toward perfection in Yog.

Born as Deer but no Karma is lost, and all the great and good deeds done by him as a king and sage bore their fruit. This deer was a born Jâtismara, and remembered his past birth( very few enlightened soul can get this ), though he was bereft of speech and was living in an animal body. So now Bharata, even as a deer, decided that he would not develop any more attachment or VAsanA. The deer Bharata deserted his surrounding deer-family and somehow went over to the same Pulahashrama where he was doing his tapas in the previous life.

The deer Bharata did not eat tasty green grass or any of the other things that deer are fond of, lest any attachment to food may develop. He only subsisted on a minimum dried grass and lived aloof from any of his own species. He lived in the company of Sadhus who were doing tapas in the Ashrama and was waiting for this life to pass and his prArabdha (destiny) to spend itself. He had decided not to acquire any more vAsanA even if he got a human life.

Life as Deer

The end came. When it came, the deer Bharata went to the river and stood up in neck-deep water and for the first time as a deer, raised his voice and ‘spoke’ God’s name, dipped in the water and died!
